First Baptist Church is a historic African American Church steeped in the teachings of Christ and Christian service. First Baptist is one of the oldest Churches in the state of Alabama and is a historic landmark. In 1963, the church became the first in the city to open its doors for activities and meetings of the Dallas County Voters League.
To continue the legacy of our beloved Church, we are in search of a pastor who can meet the challenges as our spiritual leader with the ability to lead and grow the membership as well as serve the needs of our community.

The Director of Music is directly accountable to the Board of Trustee of First Baptist Church for the satisfactory fulfillment all functions and responsibilities.
This person will provide a vision and establish direction for the musical future of our vibrant church congregation that will assist efforts to enlarge the church membership.

The First Baptist Church (also known as the Brick-A-Day Church) on North Ripley Street in Montgomery, Alabama, is a historic landmark. Founded in downtown Montgomery in 1866 as one of the first black churches in the area, it provided an alternative to the second-class treatment and discrimination African-Americans faced at the other First Baptist Church in the city.
In the first few decades after its establishment the First Baptist Church became one of the largest black churches in the South, growing from hundreds of parishioners to thousands. Almost a hundred years later, in the 1950s and 1960s, it was an important gathering place for activities related to the Civil Rights Movement, and became associated with the Montgomery bus boycott and the Freedom Rides of May 1961. The church was listed by the Alabama Historical Commission on the Alabama Register of Landmarks and Heritage on May 5, 2000.
